The agenda for Week 3 under the Women in Machine Learning and Data Science Mentorship Program was focused on understanding your career paths, interview preparation (DSA/ML), and learning how to tailor one’s resume for different job profiles. My mentor briefed me on how practicing competitive programming is the key to cracking coding rounds and DSA based interviews.

For the resume, she gave me tips on how it should be of only one page and include all the necessary keywords pertaining to your skills and the role that you are applying. She also advised that your resume should have at least 3–4 good projects (this helps especially while applying off-campus). For off-campus opportunities, it is always best to apply on the career portal with a referral as it at least ensures that your resume is once seen.

As I was confused about whether one needs to know about advanced data structures like Segment trees, Fenwick trees, Binary Indexed trees, etc for internship interviews, my mentor told me that unless you have tailored your resume to show that you’re a great and active competitive programmer, questions from these topics are generally not asked. For behavioral interviews, it is always better to prepare your answers to a list of common questions that are asked keeping the company’s vision in mind. Week 3 had been really informative and cleared tons of my doubts regarding interviews. I am really looking forward to the final week of the mentorship program!
